Glycolic acid is an Alpha Hydroxy acid that is used to rejuvinate the skin by removing the top dead layers of skin.  Once the old skin cells are shed, a whole new layer of fresh skin cells develops underneath.

The treatments help to exfoliate the skin, even out skin color and texture, increase collagen, reverse sun damage and unclog pores.  Usually a series of peels is done for best results.  For example, a sample course of treatment might include 6 treatments, 3 weeks apart.

Side effects are usually minimal and include redness, peeling and flaking of the skin.

SALICYLIC ACID PEELS

Salicylic acid peels are Beta Hydroxy peels that are also used for rejuvination.  Salicylic acid peels are more suited for acne because the treatment is better able to penetrate into the pores of the skin.

Like glycolic acid peels, these treatments are usually done in a series.  They may also cause redness and peeling of the skin.
