Treatment for Pigmented Lesions
Brown spots may be removed with the Q-switched Yag Laser, the BBL, or with liquid nitrogen. The treatment used depends on the type, number and locations of the lesions.
- The Q-Switched Yag is better for a few discreet lesions and it generally works well with 1-2 treatments. There will be dark, thin crusts after treatment that may be covered with make-up. This lasts for 3-5 days.
- The IPL treatment is better for lots of brown spots in a bigger area. There is also less discoloration while they are healing. The BBL has the advantage of also treating red discoloration of the skin. More treatments may be needed.
- Liquid nitrogen is used for seborrheic keratoses, which are benign, brown growths on the skin. These generally will not go with laser or IPL.
